Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors are health care professionals. They are experts in diagnosing and managing conditions of the musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints and bones). Chiropractors will also help with the effect spinal disorders have on the nervous system and general health.

They are highly trained and spend a minimum of four years in full-time training in the UK. Chiropractors are strictly regulated by law. Our regulatory body is the General Chiropractic Council.

What does a Chiropractor do?

Before starting treatment, a chiropractor will do a full assessment. This will involve taking details about your condition, current health and medical history, and performing a physical examination. Sometimes it may be necessary to refer you for other tests, such as X-rays, MRI scans or blood tests. It is important for your chiropractor to gather as much information about your back pain as possible so that the most precise diagnosis can be made (The British Chiropractic Association).

Our Chiropractors in Christchurch are registered with both the British Chiropractic Association and General Chiropractic Council.

What is the difference between a Chiropractor and an Osteopath?

Previously professions like chiropractic, osteopathy and physiotherapy were very different. However the professions are now very closely linked.

The best chiropractor, the best physiotherapist and the best osteopath should all be practising very similarly to each other. All three can provide pain relief through hands-on therapy, provide exercise rehabilitation plans and give lifestyle advice. At Kasper & Gray Chiropractic in Bournemouth, we use a range of techniques to deliver the best possible package of care.

What do Chiropractic adjustments do?

Chiropractic adjustments help to restore normal joint motion and function. Mechanical and chemical irritation to the surrounding tissues is reduced as a consequence of the adjustment. The result of this is reduced pain and relaxed muscles. Spinal and extremity (upper and lower limbs) adjustments are normally just one part of our chiropractic care.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We know when you’re in pain you need to see someone as soon as possible. The majority of our new patients can be seen on the same or following day.

Do I need to see my GP first?

No, although we do take a lot of referrals from GPs, you are able to self refer to us.

Will I get treatment on my first visit?

Yes, our aim is to always treat on the first visit. On rare occasions this may not be appropriate. For instance if you need further scans or X-rays, or we feel that you would benefit from a second opinion.

Can I choose my Chiropractor?

Yes, you can request who you see when booking, either by phone or when booking online.

Do you cover insurance?

We cover most major insurance companies apart from BUPA. Receipts will be provided for patients claiming through insurance, but treatment must still be paid for at the time. If in doubt, contact your insurance company.
