Chiropractor in Christchurch for Elbow Pain

Most elbow pain is simple and gets better within a few days. The pain usually comes from inflamed or strained ligaments or tendons in the forearm. Typically this is caused by repetitive use.

Occasionally the pain doesn’t clear up straight away and can become very debilitating. Symptoms of elbow pain include pain when shaking someone’s hand, lifting a glass and even gripping a pen. Your chiropractor can diagnose the cause of your pain and help speed up recovery.

Common Types of Elbow Pain

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is also known as lateral epicondylitis, and is a result of overuse of muscles that move the wrist. Typing, using a computer mouse, working with tools or playing racquet sports can all cause inflammation of the forearm tendons which attach to the elbow. The muscles become strained and put too much stress on the tendons. The strain can cause micro tears in the tissue which causes pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow.

Golfer's Elbow

Also known as medial epicondylitis. The muscles in the forearm which allow your wrist to grip, bend and rotate become irritated and overused. It’s not limited to golfers, people may also get it from painting or using tools like screwdrivers and hammers. It is very similar to tennis elbow except the forearm muscles attaching to the inside of the elbow become strained and inflamed.

How Can Chiropractors Help Elbow Pain?

Chiropractic adjustments help to restore normal motion in the joints, decrease pain and speed up recovery. We also use soft tissue release to stretch the tight muscles and tendon attachments at the elbow. Soft tissue release works by lengthening tight muscles and breaking up scar tissue, thus helping restore normal muscle and tendon function. Simple exercises for the elbow can be helpful at reducing pain.
