What are the Benefits of Stretching in the Morning?

Are you tired of waking up with aches and pains? Make simple stretching part of your morning routine to help improve flexibility and ease back pain.

Stretching is great at any time of the day, but particularly in the morning to wake up. If you have pets you would have noticed how they stretching multiple times a day after a sleep. Humans tend do this less due to time constraints and sometimes being a little lazy!

Benefits of Stretching in the Morning

Your muscles typically feel stiff and tight in the morning from lack of movement because many people lie in the same position for much of the night.

Stretching lets your body know it’s time to get moving. During sleep your muscles relax and your blood flow decreases slowing your heart rate down. As you stretch, it activates your muscles and increases your blood pressure and blood flow to the muscles which will help prime your body for movement.

Increase Your Mobility

Stretching in the morning can help lubricate joints, and enhance and maintain range of motion. Improving your mobility in the joints and muscles will reduce aches and pains.

Stress Reliever

Stretching after a long night’s sleep can be a relaxing way to wake up and boost that feel-good serotonin. Stress causes tension to build up in your body. To help relieve tight muscles, set out a few minutes in the morning to stretch out.

Improve Your Posture

No matter what your routine is, you are likely to benefit from developing a stretching routine. Whether you’re moving a lot during the day or sitting at a desk, stretching should not be ignored. Tense muscles lead to poor posture, so stretching will help your mobility and help avoid injuries.

What Stretches Should You Do?

There are plenty of stretches to choose from to help get your body moving. Ideal morning stretches are dynamic movement, such as bringing your knees to your chest, moving your knees sided to side, cat camel and yoga. We advise to warm up and move around from bed for 5-10 minutes before starting. Ultimately if a stretch feels good, do it.
